Empire of the Summer Moon
Reading "Empire of the Summer Moon" by S. C. Gwynne. Fascinating. Changes your perception of the "Noble Savage" and the "Christian Settler".

You Need a Boring Man, Like your Father
Advice given by my wife in conversation about her daughter, "She needs to find someone boring, like Pete."
Ouch...
"Yes, you're boring," she said, "but in a good way. Don't get your feelings hurt."
Nichole (old friend) when the conversation was related to workplace sexual harassment and I expressed my personal concerns - I'm pretty affectionate - laughed and said, "Pete, you're harmless!"
mmm... Can't I be a bit more dangerous. Really, who wants to be "boring and harmless."
Occasionally (and they would say regularly) the women in my life catch a glimpse of the grouch, the angry old man, the protective male, the boring guy who given the right circumstance could and would rise to the level of dangerous. And they're happy with their choice of this boring man who hangs around.

OK so it's synonymous with hard working, loyal, dependable, trustworthy, ... a family man.

A bit Prickish
I find myself driving faster on the freeway, swearing at slow drivers, taking chances. Am I a little more prickish and self centered now than I was? hmmm...
Spent Friday night discussing the 4th dimension with my son. Actually hollering "horse-shit" and other balderdash as he hollered back. At least that's how the niece tells it.
Stay away from politics and religion - unless you want an argument from a prickish old man.
